Comparison of used lengths while traveling...

Left panels show focal lengths used on two trips with an Oly C2100z, 38-380mm zoom + digital zoom. Large spike at the left suggesting a need/desire for a wider lens option.

Middle panel from a trip with a K-Minolta A1, 28-200. Obviously 200mm reach wasn't enough.

Right panels show focal lengths used on a trip to England (top) and Iceland (bottom) using a Panasonic FZ5.

England produced a left hand spike indicating a need for a shorter focal length option.

Iceland could have used more reach. (It's all those sheep and distant waterfalls.)

The top right graph is an analysis of images taken in England using the FZ5, 35-420mm. Lots of shots at the widest end, lots of buildings and not a lot of room to back up. The bottom right graph is the same camera used in Iceland. This time lots of interesting stuff seen from a distance. Lots of room to back up in Iceland.
