| Here's a quite decent introduction to sharpening. Microsoft on Sharpening I'd add that if you scan your film to digital those images will also need sharpening in most cases to be their best. | ||

| In addition to this good starting point, another good thing to do (in PhotoShop) is to sharpen in lab mode. Sharpening a color image can result in color haloing around edges of objects, so the trick is to only sharpen the monochromatic elements of the image. To do this in PhotoShop, open the image and choose 'Image'->'Mode'->'Lab Color'. Then choose the 'Lightness' channel in the 'Channels' panel. When you are done just change back to RBG mode again.
