| Reacting on Bob's somewhat negative comment in this Workshop some observations: - the group of active members on Jeber is very small (5-10?) and they all concentrate in the Pig - holiday season is still in full swing - Jeber is still in Beta state Personally i see my posts at Jeber as test post to iron out glitches and try certain features. I think Jeber has great potential due to the workshops and the blog feature. These two items make Jeber stand out from other photo critique sites. Presently Jeber is imo not ready yet for regular use. The club owners have no managing possibilities and the userinterface in certain parts is rather difficult. If Ali returns to pick up his programming these could be ironed out and then Jeber can go live in full swing. I'm looking forward to that day. Any thoughts? | ||

The club owners have no managing possibilities and the userinterface in certain parts is rather difficult - BawCan't agree with that. The interface works well, I can't think of much I want to be able to do with the club admin interface that I can't already. My problems with Jeber are that 1/ I have sod all time right now 2/ I created the wrong clubs and have found that the one I want still doesn't exist ( ooops... ) I could do with one place to post the photos I'm taking now I'm not travelling anymore, ie my town, places I tramp at the weekend, paragliding shots, my dog etc. I'd like one club to whack them all in - I don't need a specialist club right now as my skills aren't up to it and the creep crawly count is a bit low here... I also don't need Ali's future programming to make it work, he's created a site that lets me post my images and comment on other peoples' in a nice, easy to use way imo - what else is there to it? Everything from here on looks like polishing to me. I need more hours in the day and the intelligence to create a club that suits where I'm at now. It's a little dissapointing to find that all the photos are Bob's again - not that I don't like them :o) Like you say, maybe it's the summer up there and you've all got better stuff to do right now - like getting more travel images! cheers Andy | ||

| Hi Gang, I check out the club at least once a day and I see that I am not the only member who has been awol. For me the last month or so has been crazy beyond belief. It is summer here in my world and that brings a plethora of activities and seasonal chores to do. May and June were unusually slow but July and August has more than made up for that! After joining Jeber several of my deficiencies reared their ugly heads and very rapidly I may add. So I am taking several badly needed on-line courses (currently12 with more in the wings) that will not only help me with my photography (shooting, shop, etc) and this club (html) but other software and disciplines as well. Also added in this mix are some work ($$$) projects with a new one starting next week. Heck my picture count has been suffering. I really need to go out and SHOOT!!! The only thing I would like Ali to add for me as an admin is power to control the forums. I love how the workshop feature works. The blog feature forced my hand to learn basic html. We will see if it helps but I ain’t holding my breath, this chick hates anything to do with programming! So that’s what has been consuming in my world. Hopefully by fall a new and improved Camille model will be unveiled. Camille Dealing with Bob's comment: There are so many wonderful images on Jeber but many of them do not stir up a critique in me. Since we are trying to avoid the “Wow, great shot syndrome” I have had to pass by many images. Also concern has been expressed in the past that critiquing here was becoming a “Fix-it up tool” opposed to a more artistic point of view style of feedback. This also hindered my participation on some workshops. Is critiquing another one of my deficiencies rearing it’s ugly head, yes it is! Could this also be a problem with how we are directing our workshops? Your thoughts on this please. [Edited: 10:45 - cnut - added text] | ||

| Glad to see some discussion. I'm not likely to be very active for a while as I had a head-on with drunk and I'm a bit smashed up. I'll be fine after a while but my thinking is a bit fuzzy. How about you folks have a serious discussion as to what might work best for more people and I'll try to read along. | ||

| I'm stuck with a database error on all of my images (only mine, I can open all others). Told Ali weeks ago. No user can open any of my images. I'll keep checking, but this kinda cools the interest. Replied to the PM on TT, Bob.. Did you see it? Sorry to hear of the accident. | ||

| I'll jump in with an apology to Dave - I haven't had chance to investigate the bug on your images... I hope to be able to fix it just now. I'll also throw in my excuses here - I really hoped to get jeber out of Beta and live by now - as Andy said - it is mostly fixing that huge bug list and polishing some of the features. But my plans went completely astray - one relationship breakdown, moving from Hungary to live on the road, a nasty disease, and now a minor motorcycle accident (no hospital fortunately only cuts and bruises - Bob sorry to hear of yours!) - I'm currently writing from an internet cafe in Lamia, Koh Samui, Thailand - I quite like it here can do a few hours work each day and live in a beach hut :) So things are going to improve - worst period over for me. Some images for the Blind Pig on the way. | ||

| No apology necessary... Everyone has things that get in the way of the things they'd rather be doing.. I've got my share. In a message or two with Bob, I wrote this and he suggested I post it here- Among other things, Bob asked, -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You got any ideas as to how to kick it to life? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <grin> Same answer I gave in the forum. "I'd feed the pig by givin' it new meat." A cute little "family" site is nice, but Ali is/was already talking about advertising, and there isn't much chance for revenue if there's only a few people. If I had all the money that I'd need to do such a thing, I'd (in addition to telling everyone that you know) see about buying email lists of people that have purchased digital cameras. Enough well-prepared moderators can handle more people, and more people will be more activity. A variation on that theme - have Ali set up an input where we can funnel email addresses. I've told several people, and they haven't signed up, but a few have showed up. *But*, a cute little form email with lots of detail explaining the site, letting the people know that "you" were the one who gave their name, might get some folks signing up. It's a great idea, I think. There's nothing quite like it that I know of. But it'll be just a bunch of cool code if it doesn't get injected.. ----------- Not completely definitive, or all-inclusive - just my thoughts.. Dave | ||

| Sorry to hear of your accident Bob, hope you're fixing okay and are able to get everything you need in the boonies. I probably shouldn't be posting right now as I'm utterly shagged and need to go to bed, but I managed to get here so I'm posting anyway. The more I think on it the less there is in the pig for me - I won't be getting any more travel images for a long time from now so, much as I love seeing them all, I probably shouldn't be in it anymore. However, I'm not about to leave ( unless Bob kicks me ) as I need somewhere else on Jeber to go. I like the set up, the way the workshops and galleries work and it's been improving my eye and technical knowledge - thanks y'all! The life of Jeber: If spam is the answer then I must have the question wrong. Well targetted mail is fine, but eveyone that owns a digital camera...? Nor am I about to start whacking family & friends email adresses into a site: I'm pretty sure Ali wouldn't sell them on but the recipients don't know that. My turn to sound like a broken record :o) -> a better target for unsolicited email might be the presidents of real world photographic clubs: if they only meet once a month then get the more enthusiastic members posting here in their own club. Ali- how is the nasty disease situation? Life in a beach hut, those were the days ... :o) | ||

| > If spam is the answer then I must have the question wrong. I agree - there are plenty of options once the site is stable/more complete - there will be no problem getting in new members. The big problem I see is individual clubs hitting critical mass - especially with a travel related club - people just go off and do things and don't spend as much time at their PC's as they would like. I don't know how many members it would take to hit that mass - but I don't think the pig has quite reached it - I think 50 members would work in this situation. > nasty disease (Lyme disease for everyone else) - I took the treatment but I have to watch out for new symptons for the rest of my life :( - the treatment isn't always successful. > Beach hut life Awesome!! - and would you believe I turned on my laptop and found wifi! - moving on tomorrow but may well be back to subscribe to the service and live so many peoples dream for a little while :) | ||

| Oink, Oink! I get to take 2 road trips within the next several weeks! A quick trip to the state of Maryland on the 30th and 31st. But next month I will be in Michigan for more than a week! We have a Chalet on Lake Miller from the 21st to the 25th. The other days will be spent at my friend's home. Wish me luck in my hunt for some "PIG FOOD"! | ||
