Image Hotlinking

What is hotlinking - and why do I worry about it.

Hotlinking is the practice of using an image hosted on one website in another. Most commonly this is done without attribution (giving the owner of the image credit for the image), without permission - and to be fair most web users don't realise that it is very bad practice - technically it breaks copyright - but as a webmaster that is the least of the problems, the main problem is the leeching of bandwidth, additional load on the webserver, add to this - visitors to the page don't even know where the image comes from.

Jeber features anti-hotlinking images - so if your image is included in another site - a reference back to jeber will be shown.

The technical details are here: Anti-Hotlinking Code and Details

The result is shown here an image (of mine) hosted on travelblog.org hotlinked into this thread!

One day I'll figure out a low load way to also include details on where the image actually came from within the site... and show a full url.
