On pages like http://www.jeber.com/Clubs/Blind-Pig/Workshop/86-1.html The name under the image is 'Ben Wouters' but in the discussion his username show's as baw. It's not immediately apparent that this is the same person - could username/nick or full name be used consistently?

I think with photography the real fullname of the photographer is important. But names aren't unique...

So I'm trying to move to the situation where a photographer on Jeber is known by name but a nickname uniquely identifies them - eg:

Andy Leach (RedAndy)
Ali Watters (Ali)

Bob Wallace (BobTrips)     - vs -    Bob Wallace (Ninth MS)

The url has to be the nick though - it's a safe for browsers and webservers name... unlike names which have alsorts of horrid things Mr O'Really etc. As a lookup on a database is required - I can't go with /Members/Mr-O-Really/ either...

I know it isn't perfect at the mo.... but do you think this is the right direction to be headed?

I like the emphasis on real names and see that adding the usernames will help with identifying people.  Works for me.

With club title/name I think there needs to be some flexibility to allow people to tweak the names if they are to be publicly displayed.  (I assume changing the club title is easy - done from the club admin page.)

I suspect that you need to do the actual club name change so there needs to be some documentation somewhere as to how a club founder requests a change.  I can see the Common Robins Around Pittsburgh club throwing up a quick name in order to get things going and then seeing Common Robins Around Pittsburgh (crap) coming back to haunt them....

Ali Watters (Ali) under images works for me too, I think it's what I intended to say before I wandered off.

Member URL - fine as it is.

Ok - So I'll go with the Full Name (Username) for members.

Clubs - Andy suggested in another thread that for url's numeric http://www.jeber.com/Clubs/12/ - Buzz, Chirp, Munch - dropping the use of Interesting insects entirely....

Problems - existing links (so few I'll put in redirects so that we don't lose visitors)

Dopleganger clubs - "Buzz, Chirp, Munch" - "Buzz Chirp, Munch" are not the same thing... maybe we'll have to come up with some site rules on similarly named clubs...

Doppelganger clubs: You could strip special chars including space ( ie everything except  a-zA-Z ) and do a case insensitive check? That might save some of the manual labour.

Club name URL. Does seem a shame to lose the name totaly, but being in BCM and seeing Interesting-Insects is confusing. After reading Bob's crap :) the number seems the only way to have a consistently used name and still allow name changes without causing any problems. Any other ideas before it gets actioned?

How's about renaming the title of a club as a subtitle - and dropping it's prominence?

Breadcrumbs, club listings etc would use the Name (which already has the stripping of punctuation etc)

eg. =====

/Clubs/Interesting-Insects/

Interesting Insects

[club=123] - Buzz, Chirp, Munch

It's the little things that count.

This club is the place to put up those creepy crawlies you've been snapping. While it's dedicated to getting better images of bugs, if you've got something  interesting that's not photographicaly perfect, don't be shy, put it up! Interesting is much more important than perfect.

Critiques and reworks are very welcome on all images, everything can be improved :-)
