| Well, 'some' is probably the answer for me If the link is relevant to the image/discussion at hand then I'm happy to see it. However, I really don't want to see:
I don't think there's a hard and fast rule or number to this, but people know when they're posting to just promote their site and when it's to genuinely aid and inform other members. Play it by ear, PM those that seem to be abusing it and don't worry too much until it happens. Going very slightly OT: I'd rather keep 'sigs' out of the site as well - if I want to know about you I'll go to your member page, that's the real place for the link to your site. Seeing the same signature that was funny the first 53 times you read it is a waste of time, bandwidth and scrolling effort ;-) How do other people feel?

| I think I agree with what you've written. Inappropriate links - like art and porn - I'll know them when I see them. Certainly blatant ads aren't welcome on my screen. I'm getting very sick of the huge text casino ads that I'm getting every day on pBase. However both Ali and I are advertising this site (and Ali, Travelblog) on Lonely Planet. Is there a 'fair play' issue? (I'd really rather not have sig lines in every Workshop/Forum post.) [Edited: 10:52 - BobTrips ] | ||

| The amount of linking within a club forum/workshop is down to the club - but from a site side I don't plan to support signitures - if someone wants more information on a fellow member the nickname is a link, and using the Jeber Code one can link to any external sites as wanted. On the TT vs. Advertising, - TT would be a better place without signitures, but since they have them I'll use them - I don't feel obliged to do the same here though. TT would also be a better place with less trolls and more moderators (who actually post! as well as delete). | ||

| Sigs: on TT I use them to, we get some traffic from them , but don't really post much anyway. I think it's different here, esp in small clubs, as when you only have ~20 ppl sigs are utterly pointless. TT: I suspect it would also be better if it wasn't for the human beings - most people are incapable of using a search function. If I see one more 'how should I store my images on my RTW' posting I'll just... The answer will change over time but there must be at least one a day on there. My 'grats to Bob on continuing to post to them all :-) I guess it would be nice if Roman posted some times, and more than just 'write our new book for free for us guys!' 'Fair use' - reminds me that I just logged onto a photographic site I very occasionaly post to and stuck the pig in my sig, not sure they'd agree it's fair use ;-) [Edited: 18:25 - RedAndy ] | ||

| I don't want to link to my gallery sites (I do link on TT often). Why would I want the club members here to see what I don't think is even worthy to post here? | ||

| > esp in small clubs, as when you only have ~20 ppl sigs are utterly pointless. Don't forget the lurkers :-) There maybe twenty members of a club - but if a discussion is good potentially thousands of visitors may read it. One difference between here and TT is that the link from names to profiles is real - not a popup - and therefore counts with SE's - your profile page will be powerful in sending new visitors - so make sure you have your site linked from there. (I know Andy already does!) > Why would I want the club members here to see what I don't think is even worthy to post here? Erm - good point ;) - for some though they have put a lot of time and effort into building a site and getting visitors is pretty much the goal for every site. | ||

TT would also be a better place with less trolls and more moderators (who actually post! as well as delete).![]() Part of the problem is determining what is a troll and what's just a really dumb and naive question. Sometimes you just can't tell ;) Also over-moderating kills things possibly even faster than under-moderating. You usually spend less time dealing with the whiney croutons if you don't delete stuff... More moderators, yes, that would be good. Moderators posting more? Not sure. Everyone assumes that you speak for the company in a situation like that, and that you also know everything about all of the countries of the world... That makes things difficult. Also you'll find you often end up in an "us vs them" situation. Unless you want to spend all your life trying to justify yourself and passify the mutinous ones it's much safer just to delete and/or ban. Most of the troublemakers really don't seem to understand that what they're doing is a problem, even after you explain it to them repeatedly, they'll just keep doing it over and over. Then they moan at you about being victimised. Generally the less contact you have, the happier you'll be ;)

| I am reading this and trying to add my 2 cents what is a TT? Sig would be what? | ||

| Hi Jackie, TT is the Thorn Tree, Lonely Planet's discussion forum site. Some of us are/have been active there. Ali made contact with me when I attempted to recruit some people to participate in setting up a site like this. That contact resulted in Jeber. Sig is the signature feature that some sites use. It allows one to enter something (often a hopelessly cute phrase) that will be automatically placed at the bottom of each of their posts. | ||

| Sig lines just take up space. I can't too much wrong with linking to a personal website as long as it's relevant. I do this myself on TT from time to time. I think on Jeber it's not so necessary as it will always be a more intimate group than TT. We can always check each other's profiles if we are curious. My two cents. | ||
