| Photographers Note: [cimage=466] [cthumb=466] Couroupita guianensis, the Cannonball Tree from Northern South America. The seed pods look like brown cannonballs. At the age of 80 Buddha ate some spoiled meat and lay down in a grove of Sala (Sa Lah) trees to die. The 'Reclining Buddha' represents his death and escape from this world. From what I can derive the cannonball tree is probably not the Sala of Buddha but was a different tree. But over time it has become 'the' sala and is often found in Thailand's wats. | Image Details:
