Hi Andy,
What a cool shot.  Leaf hoppers here look nothing like this guy, I will post one that I got last year be warned it's not the best pix.

First I cloned out the red in the upper left corner but then I decided to do a re-crop.  I also did a bit more blur at the bottom and tighter around the little guy.  What are your thoughts on this?
I hope I figured this out and it works.

Hi Camille,

thanks for the rework. I really like that you removed the red in the corner and that you blurred the focus to the left of the bug - now that you've fixed it I can see it was quite a distraction. I'm not sure how that got to be in focus, I mean, there is _no_ depth of field in this shot so how that got to be sharp is a mystery - lens defect?

In my re-rework I took on the above, but decided to keep the space in front of the bug - I like to leave more space in front of an 'animal' than behind as it leaves them somewhere to go and makes them feel less 'boxed in' to me.

Thanks for improving my image :-) I look forward to seeing yours. I always think that if this guy was about 1 1/2 feet long instead of 2mm he'd make an awesome pet. You'd get a few holes in the celing and taking him for a walk would be interesting, but he'd be soooo cute.

Interesting observation.  I have found that the same thing works when photographing boats.  (After someone pointed out that my boat was about to crash into the edge of the frame.  ;o)
