Off the top of my head I'd say it could be a Silver-washed Fritillary (Argynnis paphia), although I wouldn't put money on that ident. Don't have my book handy, so we're relying on my memory - unwise at best ;) As for the shot itself, it's a nice angle, I think perhaps a bit of fill-in flash would have livened up the underwing area - I also think a fraction more DOF would have helped get him all in focus - so I'd have probably tried around f13 @ 1/100th You've done well to hold the highlights though, and I love the detail in the eye. I might be tempted to use Curves to try and give it a bit more bite - an s-shaped one. Also might do a bit of selective sharpening to accentuate the detail... P.S.
