| Peter A (Peter) Msg: #1 September 25th 2007 06:50:38 | Hello Mary Beth. Welcome. I really like your subject here. The contrasts and texture of the man and his baby are really nice. There's something about the background, however, that I find a bit washed out/hazy, particularly in the lower left where the boundary between his leg and the ground is all but indistinguishable (perhaps it's overexposed/blown out?). It might strengthen the shot as a whole to have a little more contrast in the background/bottom of the shot. Being of ever so humble intelligence with photoshop, I am not the one to give a step by step of how this might be done, but perhaps you already know. Also, maybe it's just me, but the image looks a touch out of focus. I would try sharpening it a little. Again, nice picture and welcome to the BP. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #3 September 27th 2007 06:09:54 | I really like the composition. It's a good 'people shot' without the people standing and looking into the camera. You've got enough of both faces to make us feel like we see the people while avoiding the full face on typical shot. I also like the angularity of the man's stance. Adds a feeling of movement to the frame. A bit of editing might bring out more detail in the lighter areas. I just don't have a working editor on this machine.... Excellent note. Makes me feel that I really know something about the man. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Mary Beth Alison (Bethie) Msg: #4 September 27th 2007 22:30:13 | Thanks for the welcome and the tips guys. You're right, it's not as sharp as it could be and a deeper contrast would make it pop more. I'm just getting started in this whole photoshop thing, so wish me luck! I'm glad to hear it clicks with ya'll though. This is my favorite picture of all 200-plus I have from Malawi - mostly becuase of my friendship with Jack, but I also becuase of the story the picture tells. | |||||||||||||||||||||
