Photographers Note:
Looking to the Southwest one can see a series of ridges.  The last is part of the King Range that separates the Lost Coast from the rest of California.  This area is accessible only by foot.

The color is natural, just something we get when light and humidity are working for us.

I like this one, the depth created by the silhouetted tree and the ridges being vaguer with increasing distance.
Do you have a similar shot in portrait orientation, with more of the tree showing?
You could consider using a graduated gray filter to get more detail in the sky.

Thanks Ben.  I don't have a graduated neutral density but the next time I see these colors (they happen with some regularity in late summer) I think I'll take my tripod and get some bracketed shots and then see if I can make a blended image.  The blown out sky is not nice.

I also think I can find a better position for the tree.  I think if I were closer and down the hill a big further.  (Luckily those two go together....  ;o)

Bob I did two things here.  First I cropped a bit off the right and then I used the paint bucket to tone down the blown out part of the sky.  Your thoughts?

Yes, that helps.  Thanks.

Interestingly this shot and the one of the elk were thrown on the site early just as test shots.  I never intended for them to be actual submissions, didn't see that much in them.  But via a little bit of careful consideration and tinkering from others they've turned into decent images.  (At least IMHO.  ;o)

I think the Pig is paying off.
