| (StraightnoChaser) Msg: #3 May 12th 2007 15:50:52 | I blew it up this afternoon as a screensaver for my 20 inch screen. Problem is that it's oversharpened? | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #4 May 12th 2007 19:54:19 | Thanks PeeWee. Couple of things... Possible oversharpening. What did you use to uprez the image to fill your 20" screen? Could that process have added sharpening? And what are you seeing that cues you in to oversharpening? I looked at the image at 100%/actual pixels and then zoomed in closer quite a bit. I couldn't see any "halos", which is what I look for when checking for over-sharpening. (Quite possibly there's much left for me to learn. ;o) -- OK, another thought.... I uploaded a 200+kB file but what's displayed at "full size" is only ~25kB, a very compressed version. Are you possibly seeing Jpeg artifacts - sort of squiggly stuff along the light/dark transitions? -- Then, your Revision. Take a look at the histogram for your version. The distribution is quite bunched up on right hand side and shows a lot of pixels blown out. I think there might be a valid version of the shot which is less dark, but yours has lost detail in the water. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| (StraightnoChaser) Msg: #5 May 13th 2007 17:47:28 | I've just tried a few things this afternoon. Must be your compression explanation. Even when I don't do anything but increase the pic in size the muddy stuff appears around the fisherman, his pole and the raft. Pity, an ideal picture for my desktop...dreaming about my next SE Asia sejour in December! | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #7 May 13th 2007 18:58:06 | Here's the uncropped version. (And I hope better processed version.) I trimmed the Original version down to fit with the "suggestion of thirds" but don't really like it as much as the way I originally shot the picture. The more centered version, IMO, better portrays the isolation of the man on his raft. Feedback? And I thought I had better removed the vignetting before posting. Guess this needs more work. -- PeeWee - I'm pretty sure that it's a compression problem. You can see the problem by looking at the Rev 3 version. Those squiggles don't show in the version that I uploaded. (Pretty ego boosting that you might want to use my shot as your screensaver. If you want I'll email you a non-compressed copy.) |
