OK, thoughts - nice composition/juxtaposition, although perhaps a little more diagonal seperation would have been even better? Regardless, well spotted!

Way too much JPEG compression though. If you try and get more detail out of the highlights, all you get are artifacts ;)

The two wires are distracting. Do you feel they add anything? If not, clone 'em out.

Contrast is a bit high between the subject and background, but neither's perfectly balanced - you (or the camera) chose a middling exposure, which suited neither without a bit of post-process IMO. However, from the overall focus/exposure I'd say you're more interested in the monkey - which is slightly worrying ;p

Overall, good, but I want one element at least to be perfectly exposed I think. I know you were probably aiming for contrast, but you'd get that if the background remained high key I think.

Thanks for all that.  Very helpful.

Vertical separation.  Would be nice, but I didn't have an opportunity to pose my subject.  Or to borrow a step ladder.  ;o)

Jpeg compression.  I prepared this one for both here and TrekEarth with it's much lower limits.

Two wires.  I did remove a couple more that are lower in the frame.  The place where the one crosses her eye gave me trouble so I gave up.  And taking out the lower one just made the upper one weird.  (IMO.)

Contrast/exposure.  This was clearly a see it - snap it.  Ms. Monkey made off as soon as I grabbed this frame.  I guess I looked a little too weird to her.  Lighting was less than ideal.  The billboard was sort of washed out with bright sunlight and the monkey backlit.  I tried darkening the monkey (and lightening her face so that her eyes showed) so I most likely increased the disparity between the two elements.  I'll go back and try to bring them closer together.  (I like the content, am not happy with the technique.)

Here's the original.  Rotated, very slight crop, resized for this site.

Just in case you'd like to show me how.  ;o)

Bob, whatever limit you sized that to, it wasn't TE. I make the original around 16kb. TE gives you 200kb - slightly different values there ;)

I also make the new version roughly that size too. You do remember that you need to post at exactly 800px to get expert mode to work didn't you?

Just found it on TE - that version's much better.

OK, here you go, based on the TE version.

Selected the background using Magnetic Lasso, touched up with Lasso - then ran AutoColor on the background. That made the colours more natural there. Slightly darkened it with a down-dipped Curve.

Cloned out the wires. You're right, that eye is a beach, but still - maybe, maybe not...

Boosted brightness somewhat on the foreground using Curves. Flattened, and Bob's your monkey ;)

F**ing colour management dribble. It looks brighter in PS. I don't think I changed anything in my setup, but the colours in Photoshop are less saturated and lighter than they are elsewhere - which suggests something has changed in my profile setup.

Clearly something isn't right. I'll go have a dig around.

Incidentally, on looking at things, I think it's affected all the shots I've edited since I've been back to a greater or lesser extent. Grrr!

I was thinking it was DPP 3.0, since that has more colour management stuff - but this edit was solely in PS. So clearly there's a problem there.

With with your color problems (which aren't obvious to me) that's a lot better version.  I like the idea of bringing the two 'subjects' closer together in terms of saturation/brightness.  I took them further apart.

I'll try cloning again when I'm not tired.  Perhaps I gave up too easily.

Thanks.

How about this attempt.  Or has it become too greenish.
