There seems to be a yellow tint to the shot. Is that what you saw? Due to pollution, if so? Also, looks like you might get some benefit with a bit of sharpening. I'm not seeing the level of detail in the trees (bottom, foreground) that I would expect. Great title.
| Peter A (Peter) Msg: #2 March 22nd 2007 01:34:26 | Thanks, Bob, and it's good to see you back. I hope you enjpoyed your time. The haze is due to a combination of a couple factors. 1, the harsh noontime lighting. 2, the thick pollutive cloud clinging to the remnants of morning damp. Because of the massive crowds, this angle was the best for showing the wall. It also happened to be the most dramatic view of its cascading expanse. Sadly, I had no controll over the light. I'd love to go to a much more rural section of the wall (aparantly the whole thing is legal to climb around on) where nobody is and get some better pics at either dawn or late afternoon. My paltry photograph hardly does justice to this wonder. I will try a bit of sharpening, though, and see if I can't resurrect some detail. | |||||||||||||||||||||

The only thing I can't decide is whether a tighter or looser crop would improve it - for some reason I want to see the horizon. I guess the strong sun would have blown the sky out though?
| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #4 April 19th 2007 23:20:17 | I think that last bit of yellow *is* the sky. (Could be wrong, obviously. ;o) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Adrian Warren (AdrianW) Msg: #5 April 20th 2007 00:12:29 | On the left it's definitely mountains, as you can see them dip into the valley in the middle - I wouldn't swear about the middle bit though ;) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #6 April 20th 2007 01:55:32 | What about that blue streak about 25% from the left? I'm seeing three clouds in the back and a couple patches of pitiful blue. While I was in Thailand the Bangkok Post ran a story about China's very high death from asthma. (Compared to the other polluted countries of Asia.) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Peter A (Peter) Msg: #7 July 29th 2007 14:26:29 | The light/haze there was really challenging. I could choose between nasty, hazy light into the sun, or much clearer light with the Mongol Hordes. Not being a fan of snapping massively crowded tourist attractions, I opted for the challenge of the dingy light. Honestly, I couldn't tell you where the sky in this picture is. It is, sadly, the only picture of the Wall in its serpentine glory that I am even close to satisfied with. The rest are either way too crowded, way too hazy, or just poorly framed and executed. One of the more challenging locations I've tried to take pictures at. Thanks for all the replies. | |||||||||||||||||||||
