I like the wick on the right - the top almost looks like a person in a fire fighting helmet of some sort. This crop and sharpen tries to pull that to the forefront and ( imho ) drags the viewers eye up and off the right - just as if following a flame in real life ( blah blah waffle ;-)

I like that crop.  I think it makes a stronger picture.  You've cut to the strengths of the image - the fire and the black.

Thanks....  (I've been having fun shooting flames lately.  Tricky buggers.)
