Another photo from Floriade. I've got a few good ones but will refrain from infesting the site with flower pics :-)

There's some good color and richness here that works for me.  But the large OOF cluster in the lower right doesn't.  It's just too dominate for my taste, it blocks your main subject.

I tried cropping down a bit.  Somehow I lightened the shot which wasn't part of my intent.

I think i have to agree with you here Bob.
Probably needed to take it from a different angle.
About 2 days after this photo all my camera gear was stolen (except for my Panasonic FZ30.... but i had no memory cards for it).
Just got a Pentax K100D to replace it. Quite an improvement over the *istDL2.
the question still remains to carry lenses or not :-)

I'm taking three lenses on the next trip.  10-17, 18-55, 50-200 for my K100d.  When the new Tamron 18-250 comes out next year I think I'll buy one and do some test shooting against the 18-55 and 50-200.  I'll give up a little quality for convenience and extra reach.

I haven't got the 18-55 anymore, but wish i did, a very light and good lens. The DA16-45 is alot heavier and bigger.
I haven't traveled overseas with a dSLR yet, so i'll have to see how i go. I love it around town and in Australia however.

The revision is great Bob, and I like the original idea as well, but indeed the bottom right bud was taking over the main subject of focus.  I think if you took the original photo and heavily contrasted the perimeters but leave the center subject lighter, it would illuminate it more and draw it to the viewer.  Therefore the clarity would be more crisp then the revision.

actually i prefer the original. reason? the diagonal formed with the pink/blue/pink. i find the additional pink hyacinth intruding on the mid-right more of an issue. also seems a bit murky, bob's repost has more of the colour i'd expect to see...
