I have been looking at this picture for a few times. It seems to be at the upper limits of exposure values and still the man remains anonymous/his face is darkened..it's his arms or hands that draw your attention and this diminishes the value of the boats around him.  Am I making any sense or should I take a tylenol?

Ages ago i posted a photo with a woman cutting pineapples. Her face was obscured but i don't believe it distracted from the image. I think the same applies to this photo, the boats make nice diagonal lines and the man and splashing water adds a subject.

Don't think you need a tylenol. Its the different opinions and thoughts that make this site so valuable. If we all agreed with each other this site would be very boring :-)

I think that the man's face is not so important in this shot.  (Not that I had the opportunity to include it.  Nor did I really give all this any thought.  I just grabbed a shot.  ;o)

For me the important elements are the arms/water/bailing and the construction of the boats.

If I recall Justin's shot the problem I had with that shot was not that the woman's face was obscured, but that it was obscured by a piece of cloth over her face and there wasn't enough detail in that area to tell what you were looking at.  The cloth wasn't obvious and it looked as if something strange had been done to her face during editing.

And it is the different opinions and different sets of eyes that makes it worth posting here.  I can look at one of my shots all night long and not see something that another person might see in a first glance.  Wish we had more people participating.

Yes thats right bob apurple cloth.... Even though the picture sizes are quite generous here they still equate to a 1 megapixel image. I guess the point being that once you knew she had it there it wasn't an issue :-) If i remember the bird flu was running rampage in SEAsia and also made me eat things like snake to get my chicken fix (yes it tastes like chicken).

Seems to be alot of members but not alot of participation. I've forwarded the site to some work colleagues to join but they haven't done so yet. I guess everyone sees photos and then thinks there own are no good, or they think they don't know enough to critique photos, when as you said another pair of eyes can pick something up.
