Just trying out some longer exposures.
Fairly happy with lack of noise at ISO800.
A longer exposure i found captures the movement of the stars and in this case i didn't want a start trail. Besides digital is quite bad at star trails as i've tried a 15 minute exposure.

For astronomy fans, the two birght stars are the pointers and below them forming a cross is the Southern Cross as it appears on the Australian flag.

You've captured the Southern Cross well here. My main concern here is actually the foreground - it's a bit non-descript, if possible I think moving closer to one of the trees would have improved things - either that or a more telephoto shot from a lower angle.

The question is how to bring out the Southern Cross more strongly? I wonder whether a slightly shorter exposure would force back the lower magnitude stars? Part of me is tempted by some nasty PS hackery, say a star burst on the stars in question - Google can tell you how if you're interested ;)

P.S. Some digitals are better for astro than others, I tried an hour and a half exposure with my 10D and it wasn't too noisy - unfortunately it clouded over half way through, and my local light pollution is terrible... My brother's 350d doesn't look so good for long exposures though.

Given the price of my camera i fully expect there to be limitations. I think about 15 minutes and there is too much red noise whit this camera.
I think i'll try it again one night and go for a drive where there isn't too much light pollution. You can also see two farms in the full size photo.
This was from my backdoor literally, living on the edge of suburbia :-) I was never a wide angle person, but beginning to love it.
