Nice scene and the swan does a good job of anchoring the bottom of the frame.

Here's my take on this one.

I selected out the swan and increased the brightness/contrast on the rest of the frame.  Didn't do a careful job and blew out part of the sky.  But this should give you an idea of what you might do.

I suppose that is what a photographer would do.  This said,  no critisism to Bob, I have some reservations re the 'perfecting' of pics in a monstertool such as PS.  When I look at my father's pics of the 50's and 60's I'm always very much charmed by the imperfections.  Anyone any views on this?  Cheers, SNC

Do you have reservations about doing anything other than blindly printing in a wet darkroom?

Is it OK to make test strips to determine exposure time, to choose a particular developer or paper for its characteristics, to crop, to dodge, or to burn?

You know, the sort of stuff of which Ansel Adams was such a master....

Not that I'd have reached any conclusions about this or that I am critisizing PS masters...perhaps what worries me a bit with PS is that all finishings end up looking the same?  Like slick finished veneer.  PS seems to encourage auburn skies and super contrast?   Maybe I'm referring to a sort of a global PS taste?  I don't know.  Ansel Adams...not my taste...somehow the super landscapes don't really get my emotions going.  Today, I ordered Revelations by Diane Arbus...let's see how she'll affect me....  All this said, no photo book really gives me what this site does...feedback and instant learning.  Cheers, SNC

If you look at Cameron's images you'll see quite a bit of post-processing that certainly results in images that look different from most.

Just had a look at Cameron's photos.  Really nice.  Interesting use of PS.

Yeah I'm not sold either way.... however I believe you should try and get the photo as best as possible. But if you make subtle changes and are open about it then i see no problems...
Obviously if the photo was for a newspaper or something thats a different story.

Back to my photo... I deliberately took it with the background in shadow. There was an awful looking dam thing at the other end. But yeah just playing around with lowlight wie angle type stuff. All this will come in handy when i travel next :-)
