| Ali Watters (Ali) Msg: #1 June 9th 2005 09:11:22 | I've played with this shot in a very obvious way - two filter layers in PS, one a gradient from the left desaturating the image, the other a colour burn from the right emphasising the reds of the Tshirts. I don't know if it enhances the statement of the image, or just makes it overly obvious. I think it was worth trying though. (bug with full image... will try to fix - 800 version is available) [Edited: 09:13 - Ali ] |

| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #2 June 9th 2005 12:25:18 | This is a great capture. The picture says it all. (However I'm sure a literary type could wax eloquently about the man on the left and the wall. How the power grid - standing in for technology - separates him from the "happy family" walking the road into the future. Now you know why no one ever hired me to write literature. ;o) I wanted to see more of the man on the left so I selected and brightened him. I cropped in tighter to make the subjects more dominate. Increased contrast and sharpened. But those two steps might decrease the 'dreaminess' of how you see the shot. [Edited: 12:33 - BobTrips ] |

| Adrian Warren (AdrianW) Msg: #3 June 10th 2005 10:18:03 | Bob, which monitor are you using? I've found the two most recent workshops you've posted a bit on the bright side for my tastes. Ali, please can we have a monitor calibration test patch on each photo screen? The way I did it for TrekEarth was a table with #000000 #111111 #222222 #333333 #444444 #555555... #ffffff. I can send you the HTML if you wish | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Andy Leach (RedAndy) Msg: #4 June 11th 2005 02:33:25 | Thanks for the feedback, I've aimed for a mixture of the two. I liked Bob's crop and sharpening, it makes the photo much grittier and real, the original looks like a hazy psuedo statement in contrast. I also like Ali's b/w concept. This should be a hash of the two. The crop is ( I think ) all Bob's, I sharpened as well. Then I worked in two halves - aiming to manipulate the viewer without making it obvious. The left: desaturated yellow and red and lightened a little. The Right: saturated the green and yellow. I might've overcooked the whole thing, any comments on the new version very welcome :-) {edit} What I like best about the new image is that my eyes now go to the left first, he's the main focus, but then they flick between the two halves. Good job guys! {edit#2} I think the difference between the colour of the grass on the two side might be a bit much...? [Edited: 02:39 - RedAndy ] |
