| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #1 July 15th 2006 02:47:00 | OK, I had some fun with this one. I had intended only to crop. I think now that I'm freed of the tyranny of the slide mount I've fallen in love with the wide rectangle. I suppose folks will just have to put up with that for a while. ;o) But then I clicked on the shadow/highlight tool and look what jumped out. Perhaps brighter than you would like, but I found it interesting. I selected the sky and used some Gaussian blur to smooth it out a bit, then inverted the selection and sharpened the mountains/trees. Looks like you encountered some incredible light conditions when you took this shot. Care to fill us in? | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Peter A (Peter) Msg: #3 July 15th 2006 10:55:00 | The light conditions were terrific. The Eastern sky was a thunderhead, whilst the Western sky was a July sunset slipping under the horizon. The light was really intense. It was all trapped under the heavy, dark cloud cover and appeared to the eye as my other photo (Mt. Peak II, above) did. The difference in effect can be accounted for with the white balance settings (I think that's what it was)...being neither sunny nor cloudy, but both, I toggled between the particular pre-settings (cloudy and sunny, in this case) and got a few different images. These two were the best of each general type. This is my favorite sort of light, with or without photographic intentions, and a rare treat to have my little camera on my desk when I noticed it. A short walk out back yielded these pictures of the local icon, Mt. Peak. I like your revision in the way it captures the light on the hill itself, but what made me partial to this shot was the brooding sky and the way it conveyes the mood provoked by the lighting. Thanks... | |||||||||||||||||||||
