| Adrian Warren (AdrianW) Msg: #3 June 7th 2005 15:25:29 | I have just one comment, JPEG compression sucks! For a B&W conversion on something like this my first thought was "I know I'll use Channel Mixer and bias it heavily on the Blue channel" - then I saw what the JPEG compression had done to the Blue channel... Artifact city. So, what did I do - well I applied a my LAB-ABblur action to the whole image twice (Convert to LABcolor, select A - 2.4px Gaussian Blur, repeat with B). Then I just used the Blue channel. The image now has a nice old worldly quality IMO :) |

I can see my image on a place mat now. ;o) The graphic potential of various 'filters' is not something that I've explored. Perhaps because I'm still struggling to make a good 'normal' image. Thanks for pushing my imagination in a new direction. (Upload problem - bug? I've had problems uploading too small crops. I'd like the system to offer 'Upload then Comment'. We've got that for original image uploads.) --- Realized that you can come back and enter your text after the upload by editing your post. But you can't see the image using this technique. | Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #5 June 8th 2005 12:32:35 | Here's the B&W I did before posting the Blue & W. I just did a Grayscale in PSP and boosted contrast a bit. Wish there was some way to see this one side by side with Adrian's version. [Edited: 12:34 - BobTrips - Entering text after image upload] |

| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #6 June 9th 2005 12:59:14 | Well, I found a way. Obviously not a good way. Jpeg compression is a big problem. Wish we could side by side the two images and see how A's more complicated technique yielded a better image. (Or was it worth the effort? Inquiring minds want to know.) [Edited: 13:01 - BobTrips ] |

| Adrian Warren (AdrianW) Msg: #7 June 10th 2005 10:22:39 | I wouldn't call it more complicated, since it's an action I've pre-recorded all it took was two clicks ;) It really depends on what you want from the image though, my version has yielded a softer image than yours - I think mine has a certain old world charm, but you're the photographer... | |||||||||||||||||||||
