The rain storm I mentioned in the forum.  Focal B&W in Picasa, plus a sharpen.  Focus looks off.

You've got a good concept going here.  Good use of foliage for framing.  And while I usually don't like selective color shots this one has a certain appeal.

You could do some things to improve this one I think.  An easy tweak would be some selective sharpening on the closest leaves.  That will give them more of 'focused' appearance.

The next ideas are a little harder, but doable.  First, clone away the stop sign.  It intrudes into mood of the shot to me.  Not a hard job given the simplicity of the background.

Then harder.  Zoom in really, really tight on 'Summer Place' and make the letters more distinct.  You'll have to work at the pixel level with something like the paintbrush but it can be done.

Thanks, Bob.  I will use this image to cut my teeth on the program you suggested I use for editing (GIMP).  There is a lot to do, and it will afford me a nice opportunity to explore the tools and features.  I really wanted to capture the contrast between the massive rain storm of the day and the bright name of my street.  I see this view every day from my desk, but it looked particularly dramatic with a gorgeous, consuming darkness and torrential rain.  The sky turned out brighter than I had hoped, and  I would like to have captured everything in a little better focus, but I had my 3x optical zoom maxed out, and the framing where I wanted it, so I just started snapping some off.  This shot illustrates the most complete combination of features I was trying to capture...a) the darkness of the day, b) the heavy rains, c) the framing of the foliage with the tree trunk on the right, d) my beloved Summer Place, and e) the contrast between the unseasonally heavy rain and the name of the street.
