Photographers Note:
This is the National Memorial of the Victims of War and Tyranny in Berlin.  It is open to the elements and it was raining when I was there today.  The sculpture is by a former East German artist that lost her son in WWI and his namesake and her grandson in WWII.  It shows a mother clutching her dying son.  Interred under it is a tomb of an unknown soldier and unknown concentration camp victim.

Wow, what an incredible place that must be.  Too bad you couldn't have captured more of the detail in the statue while still leaving the open cieling above it in the frame.  Maybe try cropping some of the floor off the bottom, and some of the waste on the sides to make the image a column of statue and skylight...too bad that would probably ruin the nuce circles created by the statye's shadow and the light from the skylight...overall it looks like a tricky place to get a photo with both the skylight and detail on the statue.  I bet you could straighten the cieling/wall line though, and strengthen the whole image a little.

Would it have been possible to put your camera on the floor and shoot up into the statue, getting the two main elements closer together?

(Just trying to think out other ways to take this shot....)

I get the feeling that the designer of this space didn't get it right.  Seems like (what seems to me) a small statue would be better placed on some sort of riser/pedestal.
