| Ali Watters (Ali) Msg: #1 June 5th 2005 13:50:57 | Wikipedia ginger flower - I'm not sure if it is the same flower... similar for sure, and very beautiful. Such a vibrant cheerful yellow, and one of my favourite flavours ;) (two British English spelling variants in a row there) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #2 June 5th 2005 14:24:27 | Thanks for that. Clearly I didn't shoot a ginger flower. The mystery continues. Or should that be - "Theu myusteuruy countiunuueus"? And a new mystery. Is this perhaps the Royal 'U'? You know, the consort of the Royal 'We'. (Weu?) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Adrian Warren (AdrianW) Msg: #3 June 5th 2005 17:51:29 | Two options spring to mind, without seeing the whole thing it's hard to say for certain though. 1) Canna lily. 2) Gladiolus. If the leaves are long and thin, and the flowers produced on a straight spike - I'd say Gladiolus, if the leaves are rounded then I'd vote Canna. Thump both into Google image search and see what falls out :) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #4 June 5th 2005 18:03:02 | I'm going Canna lily. Not a glad, at least certainly not a glad as I know them. BTW, try doing a Google image search on canna lily. You will probably see a picture of a calla lily on the first page. ;o) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Adrian Warren (AdrianW) Msg: #5 June 5th 2005 18:12:39 | Yup, tis confusing that two very different plants have such similar common names. Of course the solution is to use the scientific names, but then you get accused of being elitist, so you can't really win ;) | |||||||||||||||||||||
