The raw emotion of this image takes my breath away. The weariness in the woman's expression contrasting the babies wonder and curiosity is beautiful.  I wonder how many times she has stood barefoot on that same rock?

I made a small revision to darken the greens using a curve in Photoshop CS2.  Do you think it deepens the shadows too much?

Guess you like this one, eh Edward?  ;o)

(Don't know how you got it posted three times.  I doubled up on one a few days ago.  No harm, no foul.  But if it's a bug we should report it.)

I agree with your analysis.  It is a strong image and shooting the subjects dead center works.  Rule of thirds fails again....  The re-post looks better to me.  There may be just a bit of blue cast that could be eliminated.

And in the upper right there's some chromatic problems.  A little bit of editing will bring the leaves back to green.  It probably would have been better had the exposure been a little lower.  That would have left some color in the sky.  Then the details could be pulled from the shadows when editing.  Good place to have bracketed.

And while I'm digging in on this one.  Wonder if it would have worked better to shoot from a lower angle so that the woman was more 'in front' of her house and not one stacked on top of each other?  Just speculating....

Richard - how about taking a look at your EXIF data for this image and your 'father' picture.  I'm wondering how you had your white balance set as both of them see a bit blue to me.  No so with your 'break' picture.

Bob - I only uploaded once. This appears to be a bug. How do I report it?

Go to the main forums - not the Pig forums.  The first thread is, I think, the bug thread.

Describe as well as you can what you did and what happened.  I'm not sure how I got the double, I was sleepy at the time.  Might have hit 'submit', back arrow, and submit again for all I know.  I am capable of screwing up in case folks hadn't noticed....

Interesting comments. Edward's review does darken the shadows so that's a bit of a trade-off but overall I think it's an improvement. In any case the mother and child are the main point of interest.

According to my data this was shot in auto mode so the white balance was set to "auto". I have noticed quite a few day time shots have come out with the whites over exposed. Something to look into.
