Photographers Note:
This is a recent scan of an 8x12 print of a picture I took while stationed in South Korea in late 1983 or early 1984. It was snowing and I mounted a brand new Pentax SuperProgram SLR with a 28mm/f2.8 lens on a tripod. I used a cable release. I took the first shot and was about to call it a night when I noticed this person walking down the middle of the snow covered road.

Really, really nice.  Good compostion with the handrail running down to the left and the trees filling up the top of the frame.  The walker adds scale/depth.  In the best of all worlds he wouldn't be exactly lined up with the light pole I suppose....  I like the almost monochromatic feel.

I cloned out the date stamp in the upper right and a few what I assume are dust spots.  I also sharpened to see what it looked like.  Just to give you some ideas....

I'm sure that there was dust spots! I actually had the print in my old footlocker in the garage! LOL

To be honest, I hadn't noticed the alignment with the poll!  Even after all these years.

I like what you did with the image.  Can you tell me how you did it so I can apply to the fullsize version?  Thanks!

Sure, first I used the clone tool, medium sized brush with soft edges and clones out the date stamp and dust spots.  Before you start to clone, zoom in really, really tight.  Then once you get things looking good at very close inspection it will look great when you pull back.

Sharpening.  There's a really good article on sharpening by Microsoft, of all people.  If you don't find it with a quick Google let me know and I'll look.  It may be in the Members Helping Members forum - should be.  If not, bring that up and one of us will put something together on sharpening.  Sharpening can be tricky, especially on a shot like this one.  There's a certain 'softness' quality that can add to some shots.  Go gently.

I may have run the contrast up a bit as well, don't remember.  Give that a try and see what you think.  This is an image that should have a true white and a true black IMO.

As for not seeing the pole, happens to me all the time.  Check my recently Workshopped fish picture.  I didn't see the belly dirt at all.  Having someone else give ones image a good, critical look is something that I find very valuable.  Like having a good editor read your manuscript.
