Elephants start out so well.  Incredible trunks, massive heads, ears the size of car doors, gi-normus bodies, tree-trunk legs, but then there's the tail....

Interesting texture and detail on this. I like it but I would have liked to have seen the bottom curve of the tail that's missing on the lower right.

Me too.  But in my defense I was shooting from the top of a bouncing elephant while trying to frame the shot in bright sunlight with a LCD.

Your point is well taken.  It would have made a much better photograph.  Thanks for the feedback.
