Photographers Note:
Traditional Chinese gate meets modern Taiwanese apartment buildings.

The whitish apartment building to the immediate right of the man (ie, behind his left shoulder), is where I live.

PP - layer mask for the foreground (trees and gate) with luminosity blending, layer mask for the apartments with overlay blending.

The camera coming up is a Dynax 300si - should be Canon 20D

Can't help with the camera problem except to suggest that you check the Forum.  Seems like there's a thread dealing with camera type problems.  If you don't find an appropriate thread then start one so that Ali is aware of the problem.

As for the picture, I didn't understand why you framed the way you did until I read the note.  The image works in a "look where I live" sense, but it doesn't work so well to show the gate.   Have you got a 'gate' picture where the gate is the main subject?  Looks like an interesting structure.

BTW, where's the man.  Is this a Where's Waldo?  ;o)

If you look at the very top, about 1.5-2 inches in from the left (next to to tree), you'll find Walso. :-)

I've got some shots of the gate from front on, but they're kinda boring. In the 2 1/2 years I've been living here, I've wanted to get an aerial shot of the gate, but short of renting a helicopter, it's been impossible. But now, thanks to a helpful typhoon (hurricane/cyclone), a few trees have been blown down, and it's now possible to get this angle from above. The where I live bit was more of an aside. My aim in this image was to show the co-existence of the tradional and the modern.

I'll see if I can find a decent shot of the gate, if not, I'll make sure I try and take some next time I'm there, but I'm away for the weekend this weekend, and I don't get time during the week due to work.
