Great sunset - been getting a few here in Thailand, but haven't had the fortune to get anything with the same depth of colour in it. Just wondering if a 0.1' rotation clockwise (or there abouts) would settle the false horizon a little?

Yep, I think that might help.

What you're looking at is not the horizon, but the top of the Pacific fog bank.  During the day the land mass heats and the expanding air (sometimes) pushes the fog bank out so that I can see the ocean.  Then as the land cools during the afternoon the fog rolls back in and spills through the coastal mountain valleys.

Pair that with some high clouds and the light show gets intense.  Best part of the year is coming up - late summer, early fall.

(Took this shot because someone on DPR said that he couldn't see any use for 'mode' settings on digitals.  The timing was great, good sunset, walked out with camera set to 'sunset', snapped and posted.  ;o)

Yeah - I agree - if you get results like this with no work - then that really is worth having. I have a few nice ones from the last few weeks but nothing I won't have to play with to get this good.

I did crop a bit of the 'black' off the bottom of the frame.  Probably did a USM as the A1 is set at low in camera sharpening.
