A bit of fill flash or a reflector might have helped (but who uses a reflector without an assistant? ;o). Perhaps you could carefully lighten some of the shadow areas? What you did capture is a lot of joy. Boys having fun. And it happens the world around. I'm sticking in a shot that I took in Bangladesh. The young boy on the left side of your shot reminded me of my shot. Looks to me as if the youngest in each shot is more interested in the group of older boys than in the camera. |

| Ali Watters (Ali) Msg: #2 July 27th 2005 15:21:40 | Really brightens up the day seeing shots like these! Unfortunately my best shots in this vane were on the one CD that never made it home... and accidently deleted from my hard drive - that's when I started my "burn two copies" policy. | |||||||||||||||||||||

No blown highlights! I tried some shadow/highlight adjustments, but they start to look unnatural very quickly. It's amazing how a camera attracts people, and especially kids. Bob, your shot looks full of joy. Where they posing or is it a quick shot as well? | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #4 July 27th 2005 18:45:59 | Mine was just a quick snap, or more accurately a quick burst. I was shooting something else and the boys suddenly appeared. When I aimed at one they all piled in, took a quick look at the images on the LCD and then rushed off on some great adventure. One of the things that I really enjoy about this shot is how the older, darker skinned boy was treated by the rest. He was clearly moderately retarded (developmentally delayed if you prefer). But he was totally accepted in the group. I just don't see this in our (American) culture. Credit due to the auto-exposure features of today's cameras. I wonder if I could even get close with my old fully manual beasts or if the moment would have passed. | |||||||||||||||||||||
