Nice shot Courtney. Seems like everywhere I go someone is fixing or building and a crane or scaffolding or something is there to mess up the view. I just lightened the shadows a little and increased the contrast some.

Walt, funny you should ask ;)

First step was a little rotation, 1.5°CCW.

Then came the tedious stuff. I mainly used a 5px Clone Tool @ 100% opacity, zoomed in to 400%. Choose your source point carefully, and make sure you align it well with the end point.

For areas which I couldn't clone I used 5px Paint Brush to roughly colour the area and then a 1px Paint Brush, or Line Draw to add detail. To add reality I ran a 13% BlurTool over the areas I'd painted to soften them up a bit, and then occasionally used the Burn Tool on Highlights @ 3% to drop the intensity a bit.

Funnily enough the church is actually the easy part to clone back, the tricky bits are the areas where the large parts of the crane obscure low detail areas - like behind the roofline of the church...

If I'd had some other shots taken from slightly different places I'd have been able to do a better job I think.

Anyway, glad you liked it :)

Very nice Adrian!  I'm not sure I would have had the patience to work through that one.  By the way, nice images on your site.  I especially like the angle you got of the bridge in Sydney, beautiful...

Thanks!

I like challenges, and recreating buildings when you don't know what they're supposed to look like is definitely a challenge ;) I just left it open in Photoshop, and when I was bored of something else I'd have a quick nibble on it... Oddly the hardest part for me was the roofline behind the church, mainly because there wasn't enough existing detail to work with so I had to paint it from scratch! It's not a perfect job, but I think it's reasonably good.
