This is really nice.  Good job.

Now let me be a bit critical.  ;o)  I'd like to see a bit less tight shot.  You've got another elephant in the upper right, I think it would have been nice to see its head.  Perhaps there's a reason you couldn't.  Aside from that I think a bit more room on the right would feel a bit better.

And a technical question.  Is there a bit too much sharpening?  I'm seeing a halo around the elephants and the ground looks a bit over sharp.

You're right on both counts... It's been over cropped from a larger shot and was taken/processed while I was still close to the beginning of the learning curve with digital and photoshop. Thanks.

Here's a wider crop from the original

Bob, out of curiosity: the focal length showing in the image info, is that the actual lens focal length or does it include the sensor multiplication factor? (35 mm equivalent)

It's the focal length of the lens... so with the crop the effective length was around 500. I used the Canon 100-400 IS zoom on most of these.

Unfortunately the wider version chops off the rear elephant's head.  I think if it were mine I play with a wider crop than the original post and then clone out the partial elephant.  I like the crop off the top/bottom in the OP and the post processing that you did on the grass works.
