| Camille (cnut) Msg: #2 July 3rd 2005 10:45:51 | Bob. Wow, what a view and capture, great job. I really like this shot: the beautiful view, the great use of natural lighting. I thought about cropping a bit off the bottom. I did not like; it lost some of the perspective of the mountain forest’s incline and the feeling it gives. Is this mid sunrise or sunset? | |||||||||||||||||||
| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #3 July 3rd 2005 12:34:05 | Thanks. It must have been in late afternoon based on the direction of the sun. This shot got uploaded before the EXIF stuff was in place and the date/time is missing. | |||||||||||||||||||
| Walt Foster (Walt) Msg: #4 July 4th 2005 09:10:27 | Great shot Bob... but, in the manner of all tinkerers... I lightened up the foreground a little... seems to bring out the snow and the glow. And I increased the contrast on the sea/sky a little. Looks like I could have increased the color on those hills though... I lightened them a little too much. |

| Bob Wallace (BobTrips) Msg: #5 July 4th 2005 09:22:24 | Thanks Walt. An example of how the photographer sometimes brings 'baggage' to their version of the shot. I think lightening makes for a better image but it might not (hadn't) occurred to me as the original was closer to what I saw at the time of snapping. It was late on a winter day and the shadows were deep. Your version makes for a nicer winter scene (IMO) and brings out the ocean and surf line more - which I like. Lighter mountains in the background? I can go either way. | |||||||||||||||||||
| Camille (cnut) Msg: #6 July 4th 2005 10:30:49 | Walt I liked what you did to the trees in the foreground and the sky. I also like the change to the snowy slop on the right and the tips of the stand of trees. I am not liking the change to the ridge or the stand of trees. A composit of both I think I may like. | |||||||||||||||||||
| Walt Foster (Walt) Msg: #7 July 4th 2005 11:00:26 | While they don't (necessarily) refer specifically to the photo at hand, I'd like to offer two points for consideration... First, unless everyone's screen is calibrated exactly the same, we're not all going to see the same thing in the same way... especially when it comes to finer nuances of color and shading. Not a major obstacle, just something to keep in mind IMO. Second, there will always be the age-old argument/discussion as to whether a photograph should be a faithful reproduction of what is seen under the conditions present or whether some artistic license should be allowed to provide an interpretation of the scene for whoever the ultimate audience may be. It's a matter of taste/philosophy, not right or wrong IMO but I lean toward the latter so please bear that in mind with my tinkering. :-) | |||||||||||||||||||
