Photographers Note:
Taken last weekend, used a polarising filter, the sun was very strong. I particularly liked the dark background which allows the flowers to really contrast.

Cloned away some of the background distractions, increased the contrast and sharpened.

This would (I think) have been a better picture if you had pulled back just a little and captured all the petals on the left and bottom.  I'm trying to train myself to 'overshoot' so that I have room to rotate or crop later.  (It's not an easy thing to learn after years of shooting transparencies where you got no chance to edit.)

And if you had shot from a lower angle you could have shown the iris against a black background.  (That could still be done with cloning.)

Luckily, unlike with a travel photography club - I can go back and have another go :)

I'll try tomorrow... 5 mins walk to this flower.

Agree with the point about the petals on the left... will see what I can do.

I've been to SEA a dozen times or so.  I've been known to go back and try a shot over.  ;o)

Get more of the bottom as well as the left.  My first iris bloomed out yesterday.  The wild irises started appearing about a week ago.

Really need to start photographing the local wildflowers.  We've got lots and lots.

The problem I have here is not knowing what they all are (along with the insects) - anyone know any good nature identification websites?

Not for there.

How about starting a "What's this?" club?   ;o)
